Sports schools in Rostov-on-Don and the Rostov Region are ready for an influx of children wishing to play football after the 2018 World Cup, Deputy Minister for Physical Fitness and Sports of the Rostov Region Svetlana Gadarova said at the City Press Center.
"We are ready for a spike in enrolment; we've had this experience after the Sochi Olympics and Paralympics," said Gadarova adding that enrollment in municipal educational institutions will begin in September, and new sports grounds are being built now.
About 110,000 people play football in the region and 23 regional tournaments are held, almost all of them during school holidays so as not to distract the children from their studies, she said.
"This year, the children's courtyard football league will be held for the first time, a tournament for sports schools' teams and also for those who simply like to play football in the yard," Gadarova explained to journalists.
Local sports schools have football departments for girls, so if someone is inspired by the 2018 FIFA World Cup teams, they will have no problem signing up, and will also be able to start playing football, the deputy minister stressed.
