The 2018 FIFA World CupTM and the Rostov Arena construction project have given a boost to the creation of professional sports facilities in the area, the Rostov Region's Minister of Physical Fitness and Sports Samvel Arakelyan told journalists at the City Press Center.
"The governor is setting this as a task, and the entire project is to be completed by 2025, with work already underway," he noted.
According to Arakelyan, a sports cluster will be established near the stadium, including an ice palace, a handball arena and a riding school. The city racetrack will also be relocated to the site. The facilities will allow people to engage in 18 Olympic sports.
We are drafting paperwork on some of the facilities, and others are already being built, he added.
He explained that much would depend on deadlines for transferring the federal-owned stadium under regional jurisdiction in line with the heritage program. The process could take 12 months, he noted.
