As many as 1,196 World Cup volunteers and 1,540 city volunteers contributed to the organization of the championship in Volgograd, according to Anna Gubina, lead specialist for volunteering of the Local Organizing Committee's special division in Volgograd, who spoke at the City Press Center.
"Almost 3,000 volunteers, with their smiles, enthusiasm and willingness to help, brought more joy and made the city more appealing to guests. They shared their love for their city with everyone who visited and all local residents on the streets," she said.
Gubina added that volunteers were involved in the operation of many facilities across the city, including the stadium, FIFA Fan Fest and the arrival areas at the airport, railway station and bus station.
"Our volunteers were of great help literally everywhere."
Gubina also expressed gratitude to all volunteers who did and continue doing such a great job at the World Cup.
For his part, Director of the World Cup Volunteering Center in Volgograd Pavel Perekhodov added that the city received around 6,000 applications from would-be volunteers from around the world, and people from 30 countries were selected.
