Minister-counselor, Deputy Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Russia Paul-Bertrand Barets praised the readiness of Nizhny Novgorod for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he told journalists at the City Press Center.
"For me this visit is a great opportunity to discover Nizhny Novgorod, which I like very much. It was very interesting for me to come here. I would like to point out how well the World Cup has been organized. This is a great success for Russia. We see support and respect for football values. I really hope the even can change the perception of Russia of many foreign guests," Barets said.
He added that preparations to receive French fans had been made in advance resulting in the opening of a consular venue at the local branch of Alliance Francaise, a cultural and educational center of the French Embassy in Russia.
"We sent two of our employees who could assist French nationals should they have any issues with visas, national passports or FAN IDs. I must say the consular venue is temporary because the flow of French tourists does not justify making it permanent. Still, I want to believe that the World Cup will see the flow increase in the future," Barets said.
