Over 200,000 people attended the 2018 FIFA World Cup matches at Rostov Arena, said Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev at the local City Press Center.

"A total of 214,000 people attended the World Cup matches at Rostov Arena, with an average of 42,841 fans per match," he said.

Over 20,000 law enforcement officers and Cossacks assisted in maintaining public order, Golubev said, adding that over 3,000 city volunteers have been working during the tournament.

The Cossack cavalry units were particularly popular, the governor added.

"Once again, our region has shown visitors that we have our own, authentic culture," he said.

Moreover, a total of 439,500 people attended the FIFA Fan Fest in Rostov-on-Don.

In general, the governor rated the World Cup organizing efforts in Rostov-on-Don a "four-plus" out of five.

"I'm rating our efforts at no less than four-plus; the rest is up to the fans to decide," the governor said. "They might have certain comments, and we'll listen. This will give us an opportunity to improve in the future."

Golubev also said that the city and region governments should be reviewed separately, and in every area: transport, security and event organization.
