The 2018 FIFA World Cup will give a boost to the development of other sports in Russia, Olympic rhythmic gymnastics champion Daria Shkurikhina said at the Nizhny Novgorod City Press Center.
According to Shkurikhina, she is ready to take part in organizing a championship.
"This year, we decided to unite with the Alexander Popov Cup (junior swimming competition); five Olympic champions are involved, right away: Popov, me, and the other names I will keep secret. Five sports tournaments will be held simultaneously, with over 1,500 children taking part. The idea is to hold a mini Universiade," Shkurikhina said.
According to Shkurikhina, she has also discussed the improvement of the gymnastics infrastructure with the Nizhny Novgorod administration.
"Mr. Nikitin (Nizhny Novgorod Region Acting Governor Gleb Nikitin) and I have already discussed this. He is into sports, really supports sports events and tries to attend everything, so I hope a complex will open in Nizhny Novgorod.which will be able to host various competitions such as European championships, world championships, and so on. And this will involve not only gymnastics, but football, basketball and volleyball as well," Shkurikhina said.
