The experience of hosting the 2018 FIFA World CupTM will help us hold other large international sport events, Arkady Dvorkovich, president of the 2018 FIFA World Cup RussiaTM Local Organising Committee, said during a video news conference at the Moscow City Press Center.
"There will be many events, and Nizhny Novgorod is one of the best venues," Dvorkovich said.
He also laid out plans for the forthcoming years.
"Speaking in a broader perspective, we have already a number of large-scale events scheduled. They are the Universiade in Krasnoyarsk next year and the UEFA Euro 2020 in St. Petersburg. This is a very big event. I sincerely hope that the Russian Football Union will apply for holding large football events of varying levels. I mean junior championships and women's championship. We are also capable of hosting final matches between the Russian football clubs at the top level in any of the World Cup host cities," the president of the Local Organizing Committee stressed.
Dvorkovich noted also that hosting a summer Olympics is not an issue as of now.
"It is too early to speak about summer Olympics, even though such an idea has popped up. I think our country is worthy of hosting the summer Olympics. But when and how to apply is up to the Olympic Committee and country's leadership. I have no doubt that such a discussion will commence but I do not think it will happen this year," the president of the 2018 FIFA World Cup RussiaTM Local Organising Committee said.
