State Duma deputies proposed an initiative to make amendments in the law on memorable dates according to which the Day of Russian Football might appear in Russia, Olga Pavlova, the member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, told journalists at the Kazan city press center.
"A memorable date — the Day of the Russian Football — is planned to be introduced on October 22, the birth date of the legend of the Soviet sport, Dynamo football player, Hero of the Socialist Labor Lev Yashin. Is it not the recognition, the merit of the FIFA World Cup?" Pavlova asked.
She also shared her impressions from the 2018 FIFA World Cup. According to Pavlova, the world cup's main legacy will be the infrastructure, including those directed at the development of children's sport, the experience of holding major international events and Russia's changed world reputation.
"We changed the image of Russia for the entire world. We did not want to charm foreigners, we are charming by ourselves. And now our country, our Russians, including our Tatarstan citizens, have fans in other countries," Pavlova boasted.
She confessed that the Belgian team's performance mesmerized her. In the finals, Pavlova will be rooting for the French national team.
