Seven percent of the volunteers at the 2018 FIFA World CupTM were foreigners from 112 countries, said Tatyana Gomzyakova, Head of the Volunteer Department, Local Organizing Committee; member of the Organizing Committee, the Year of Volunteers in Russia, in response to a question from the Rostov City Press Center.
"Our volunteers came from all over world," Ms Gomzyakova said, adding that many of them had been involved in FIFA events before, which turned out to be very helpful.
Some were initially afraid of the language barrier, not all of them spoke Russian. However, within just a couple of days into the World Cup, the volunteer team became a single whole.
According to Gomzyakova, at the initial stage, 30 percent of the FIFA World Cup volunteer applications were from foreigners, representing 189 countries.
